In a matter of months, the state’s overhaul of the Charter Schools Act will go into full effect. This workshop will highlight the key reforms affecting districts—the authorization and renewal processes, new COE requirements, geographic siting rules, to name a few—under Assembly Bills 1505 and 1507, and Senate Bill 126. Given the lingering legal ambiguities within the new laws, plus the ongoing debate over nonclassroom-based charters, we will also shed light on where the charter school policy debate is heading in 2020 and beyond.
